Recital 2024 - FAQ’s

If you have a question we haven’t thought of here, please let us help. Recitals can be overwhelming - even if it isn’t your first one. Contact us-  we’re here to help you!

What is the Recital?

All dancers are invited to participate in our end of the year Spring Recital. The recital offers our students a professionally directed performance that allows them a chance to shine onstage and share what they have learned over the year!

When & Where?

Our recitals will be held at the Margaret W. Rudder Theater at Rudder High School on May 17-18, 2024

What time is the recital?

We host multiple recitals and each class is assigned to a specific show based on their age and class. This allows us to keep the length of each show to a minimum and offer each family ample space to see their dancer(s) shine on stage!

How are classes allocated to each recital?

The process of assigning classes to each recital spans over a month, involving meticulous planning. The challenge lies in ensuring a balanced distribution of families across shows and maintaining an optimal performance duration. Our recital planning program plays a crucial role in orchestrating shows with minimal conflicts. Despite our efforts, there may be instances where families are assigned to different shows. It's not uncommon for siblings to participate in multiple recitals, a practice embraced by many dance studios.

How long is the recital?

The Dance Discovery Recitals will be approximately half an hour.

The Ballet Recital will be approximately one hour.

The Dance Dedication Recital will be approximately one hour and 15 minutes.

How many times will I see my dancer on stage?

Twinkle Stars and Starlettes perform one dance. Rising Stars & Shining Stars will perform two dances. All other dancers will perform one dance depending on the classes they are participating in. As a general rule of thumb, the amount of classes your child is enrolled in is the amount of dances they will perform.*

*Each Ballet Level has one dance since students attend class 2-4 times a week

Does my dancer wear a costume?

Yes! Dancers will receive one costume per class for the Dance Discovery Program and are required to have the appropriate color and style of shoes. For Dance Dedication, dancers will have one costume for each class (and one total for their level of Ballet). For example, if a dancer is in Jazz and Hip Hop, they will have two costumes and the appropriate shoes for each class.

How do we order our recital costume(s)?

Costumes are ordered in January so we have plenty of time to get all of the costumes in! Our recital and costume fee is part of your all inclusive tuition.

A new pair of tights and ballet shoes are included for Levels 2, 3, 4, & 5.   Jazz and tap shoes are not included and will need to be acquired on your own

If you enroll after March 1st 2024, your dancer will not be able to perform in the recital due to the time it takes to learn the routines and get costumes ordered.  Dancers are measured in class, and our costume mistress, Ms. Karen will choose the best size for your dancer according to those measurements.

*All fees are non-refundable and costumes cannot be returned or exchanged for different sizes – our costume mistress can have alterations done to your costume to ensure a perfect fit.*

Is there a Dress Rehearsal?

YES! It is critical for the confidence of our dancers onstage that we do a trial run. This shows the dancers how to cope with little mishaps that can happen in a stage environment when you add nervousness, spotlights, and costumes! We run into all of these in rehearsal so that in the show, dancers know just what to do to keep the production going with a smile.

Do I need tickets to the show?

No, you do not need tickets for the show! Tickets and other recital costs are part of your all inclusive tuition

Can I take pictures or videos of the performance?

We hire a professional videographer to film all shows. The video link will be sent to you at no additional charge. Keep in mind that the performance is meant to be enjoyed live, and phone and flash photography can be a distraction to our dancers. We ask all audience members to refrain from taking pictures or filming for the safety of our dancers and the enjoyment of the other members of the audience.

Will we receive pictures in costume?

Yes! Each year, we coordinate a professional photo shoot for our dancers. Mark your calendars for April 13th. Daniela Weaver Photography will make sure you get beautiful, high quality pictures in dance poses. A range of packages are available for purchase. Details will be made available early April.

Does my dancer wear make-up?

We encourage the dancers to wear makeup. You would be surprised how washed out and expressionless a dancer without makeup will appear under the stage lights. Footlights and spotlights are bright and the best way to look natural under them is to rely on a little makeup. We recommend at least a warm blush and bronzer and red lip stain or lipstick. More details will be relayed at the recital meetings later in the semester.

What type of hairstyle do we do?

ALL DANCE DISCOVERY RECITAL DANCERS, should wear their hair pulled into a tight and high classical style based on the dancers hair type. Textured hair may be braided or gelled away from the face and off the neck as you as the parent see best and straight hair can be combed smooth into a high bun. Stray hairs of any texture will catch the light and give the dancer a halo-ish glow.

DANCE DEDICATION RECITAL DANCERS may choose their own clean, simple and functional hair style, UNLESS directed by class to do otherwise. Best choices include, low to mid ponytail with a side or middle part, high ponytail, high or low bun, french twist, braided out of the face and off the neck, french braids into a bun. Style must be off the neck, out of the face and gelled or sprayed down to minimize flyaway and stray hairs that will catch the light. DOWN OR ½ UP HAIRSTYLES MUST BE APPROVED BY DANCE DIRECTOR MACIE EVERITT AND WILL BE DECIDED UPON BY CLASS

BALLET PROGRAM RECIAL DANCERS will receive Hair and Makeup Tutorials via email in April.
